These are two EARLY AMERICAN primitives, the first, a hand punched tin lantern, sometimes called a "Paul Revere" lantern. This is unique, the inside has a handmade wooded/tin holder for the candle to fit in. There seem to be alot of these on the antique market, but this one is the REAL thing.
The second is an 18th Century EARLY AMERICAN, hand made miniature pot holder, for the hearth. This is the smallest I have ever seen. This is not a salesman sample, Early settlers made what they needed. One of a kind, for sure.MINI POT HOLDER HAS BEEN SOLD

TWO EARLY AMERICAN (18TH CENTURY) FOOT WARMERS
Foot warmers were used in the carriage to keep travellers warm on those cold, snowy nights. Called a Foot warmer or carriage warmer, hot coals were placed in tin or iron, sometimes redware containers inside the warmer, and ladies would put their feet on them, to keep warm. There were allowed in churches (early churches did not allow stoves) Men took their dogs into the church to keep warm, therefore, the phrase, Dog is Man's best Friend! The tin foot warmer is unique as it is round and made of punched tin. I have never seen a round foot warmer. The second is made from all wood, being the EARLIEST of foot warmers. I have seen many foot warmers made of tin and wood, with hearts punched into them, this is earlier. These are both great finds of the colonial American period.

These are two of the nicest, early American posnets or cooking vessels I have had. They are both pre 1820 as they are both marked on the bottom, in the iron, with a 'gate' or line. LET'S TALK ABOUT FLOORCLOTHS! ALL FLOORCLOTHS HAVE BEEN SOLD, WILL RESTOCK IN THE FALL, WITH NEW HISTORIC DESIGNS!
We are adding a new addition to our shop. These are recreations of ORIGINAL design antique floorcloths from colonial America. Floorcloths were used to warm drafty floors, to use as a rug that was easy to clean in a busy farmhouse. Many early paintings show a floorcloth in the background. Made of heavy canvas, and painted with a variety of designs, these lasted for years. I started using them in my home years back on my floors but also on my table to use in place of placemats! One long floorcloth runs the length of my table! ALL my floorcloths are from original Historic design. They are all hand painted, with seven coats of non shiny polyurethane over that, to give you YEARS + of use. A damp cloth is all that is needed to wipe these clean. GREAT to use at the doorway, on a table or floor. These ship very easily.

Floorcloth: From the BENJAMIN PIERCE HOMESTEAD, HILLSBOROUGH, N.H. CIRCA 1740-1840
Size: 3 ft x 3 ft

Floorcloth: From the HISTORIC MAY HOUSE, WOODSTOCK, CONN. CIRCA 1740 1840
